The Happiness Tour Australia – Dr. Saamdu of the GNH Centre Bhutan

Dr. Saamdu Chetri (Executive Director of the Gross National Happiness Centre Bhutan) is coming to Australia to share his wisdom on Gross National Happiness and the ways we can enrich our lives and communities with a mindful, values based and interconnected approach.

About Dr. Saamdu Chetri 

Dr Saamdu Chetri is the Executive Director of the GNH Centre Bhutan. He was born in rural Bhutan and holds a Ph.D. in Commerce. In 1982 he became the first government graduate to work on the development of private sector in the country. During his six years tenure in the private sector, he worked closely with TATA, Tractors India Limited, McLean Magor, Durgapur Steel Plant, and many other firms. He also carries more than 18 years of experience in socio-economic development, working as the Bhutanese Head for bilateral development agencies at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Helvetas. During this period, he was a member of numerous development programmes in and outside Bhutan, engaging in consultancies for organizations including UNDP, UNCDF, and Helvetas.

His experience and expertise range from rural development, microfinance, teaching, and research, to project management and administration. Dr Chetri has published widely, including Money and microenterprises and Far Apart and Close Together. He also contributed to the first book on Gross National Happiness. In 2011 he was appointed to develop the GNH Centre in Bumthang, Bhutan.
